1st & 2nd Grade (U9) Program
Our goal is to have FUN and try out every position on the field throughout the season, including goalie!
HGYL will field smaller teams for 1st & 2nd grade players, as the entire focus is to teach fundamental lacrosse skills (throwing, catching, ground balls, cradling, and shooting) to young players. This will be an inclusive & positive program with a focus on building confidence on and off the field.
Our amazing HGYL Volunteer coaches and the HHS Girls Team will provide both skill development and game time to allow girls to grow their athletic literacy as well as their love for lacrosse.
Our 1st and 2nd grade program is a two-day-per-week commitment, with one practice during the week and a game with their team on Sundays. Multiple balanced teams will be formed in this grade group. This division, like all of the divisions in our program, is organized by school grade. Sign-ups are done on a first-come-first-served basis. There are no cuts and everyone will play, however it is expected that players make a commitment to both practices and games.
Positions for U9 (1st/2nd Grade): 8v8 ( 7 + Goalie )
- 2 Attack
- 3 Midfielders
- 2 Defense
- Goalie (if possible)
Rules for U9 (1st/2nd Grade):
- Restraining Line = 5 field players allowed over midfield line (2 + Goalie back on RL)
- At least 1 pass required once ball crosses midfield (*attempted passes)
- No checking or triple teaming (crowding ball) / but players can double team
Grades 1 & 2: Practices will be once a week and Full Games with referees will be played on Sunday mornings - program runs from late March (indoor until mid-April) and then to mid June (outdoors).
This season, we will have the best of both worlds for our U9 Program! Mass Youth Lacrosse League (MYL) offers Grade 1/2 Teams an 8 game season option, which allows HGYL to provide our 1st and 2nd graders MYL Travel games against other Metro West Central towns (vs. only in town games like last year).
- Please note that MYL requires balanced teams and no standings or scores are kept at the U9 Level.
